School Safety and Student Success

Stopping the Spread of Illness in Schools Starts with Identification

As we continue to face uncertainty about the 2020-2021 school year, it’s important to plan to stop the spread of illness in your school. Identifying mild symptoms, encouraging testing and quarantining, and reducing a sick child’s impact on other students and staff are critical. By implementing these ideas, you’ll be a much better place to safely open your school.

Tools for monitoring building activity

To safely keep open schools after COVID-19 closures, school administrators will need to closely monitor building activity. This may be a good time to upgrade school IT with automated attendance and visitor management systems. Modern technology can help better secure buildings and improve operational efficiencies. Student and staff  Face Recognition and RFID Cards technology can provide real-time data on attendance. Administrators, through a central web portal, can see at once who is in the building and keep close tabs on attendance data. Additionally, automated systems create accurate records that may be shared with local health officials for contact tracing purposes.

Student Accountability

Get people into the venue quickly!

Multi-point student attendance– inside the classroom, at the building entrance or at an event–can be collected automatically, allowing students to be accountable for their daily attendance and administrators to review real-time and historical attendance patterns or exceptions.

Meeting organizers or staff can view and download a meeting attendance report. Find this report in the Participants pane of the meeting or class, by clicking the download arrow as shown below. You can download the report as a .xls file (Excel format) or PDF.

For education tenants, this report is useful to track student attendance in classes. For example, the teacher can download the attendance report at the start of class as a simple way to do a “roll call.” To learn more, read Download attendance reports in SmartX HUB.

Contact Trace

Implement contact-tracing plans for stopping the spread of illness if a student is diagnosed with the virus.

Contact tracing is an important method for making sure that a sick student significantly has not increased virus spread. To do this, Johns Hopkins recommends tracing everywhere that a student has been and letting others know that they may have been infected. Then they, too, can quarantine to ensure that the disease won’t spread further.

There is an effective method to do contact trace, instead of using interviews. Schools are now using technology for tracking. Smartx HUB Platform can simplify this. Each student should be given a unique Face Recognition ID and/or ID card; this is their digital thumbprint on-campus facility. Whenever entering a building or a classroom, a student can be recognized by Smartx’s Kiosk, cameras or swipe this card on the Secure  Access Control portal.

Visitor Management using Cameras and Kiosks

Do you need historical and real-time information on who is entering your buildings?

The Smartx HUB kiosks have been integrated into Visitor Management and Access control systems to prevent those that register a high body temperature from entering the campus.

These kiosks are a cost-effective investment, doing away with the need for another employee to hold a handheld thermometer and potentially become infected themselves.

When front office traffic is high, utilizing one system to check-in and register people keeps things running smoothly.

Many schools opt to use their visitor management system to also track time for staff or volunteers as well as student arrivals and dismissals. Simply toggling between visitor types means added functionality and convenience, with less manual work for staff.

Employee's Time and Attendance

Our easy-to-use time and attendance software makes it easier than ever to manage and collect employee data and export payroll anytime, anywhere.

Prevent time theft and buddy punching with our Face biometric time clocks, which apply rounding rules and restrict schedules, which can help you save thousands of dollars per employee.

Smartx HUB’s time and attendance software features a simple yet powerful interface, providing you with real-time data, such as worked hours, that can be managed on every web-based device.

The SmartX HUB is the most-advanced Face recognition time clock today! Face recognition simply involves taking a picture of the face; this picture is used solely for identification. The user stands in front the Kiosk time clock and in less than 2 seconds their identity is verified.

Proper Use of Temperature Screening Kiosk

  • The person who handles the system should follow all manufacturer instructions to make sure the system is set up properly and located where it can measure surface skin temperature accurately.

  • The person who handles the system should be trained to properly prepare both the location where the system will be used, and the person being evaluated, to increase accuracy.

  • The FDA issued the Enforcement Policy for Telethermographic Systems During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Public Health Emergency guidance to help expand the availability of thermal imaging systems and mitigate thermometer shortages during the public health emergency. The guidance sets forth an enforcement policy that is intended to apply to all thermal imaging systems that are intended for medical purposes for the duration of the public health emergency related to COVID-19, and provides recommendations regarding performance and labeling of such systems.
